Virtua Health System has been another continuing user of Hessert’s construction services. Hessert has completed over a dozen projects for Virtua. This exemplifies Hessert’s ability to successfully build and maintain relationships over a long period, successfully overcoming challenges and obstacles.
Voorhees Obstetrics Unit
This Virtua Health System project was competitively bid and significantly over budget. Hessert worked with the hospital to meet the budget. The project rebuilt and changed the functional use of five significant areas while maintaining the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week requirements of the hospital. Hessert completed the project in only 8 months.
Hessert was contracted to build six state-of-the-art operating suites, with laminar flow air distribution and significant renovation of ancillary space. This project was originally bid with a select list of bidders and was over-budget. Hessert was selected to value engineer a reduction in cost, while maintaining the sophistication of these complex systems. The operating suite phase was completed in eight months from start of foundations. To meet this tight schedule, the 100% exterior air systems were secured in England and shipped fully assembled to the job site ensuring the rapid and successful completion of the project.
Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center
This 134 bed expansion to the existing hospital became a “show place” for Virtua Health’s continuing venture into the senior care market. Meeting the challenge of an expiring Certificate of Need, Hessert expedited construction and maintained the extremely aggressive schedule throughout the project. Through the company’s efforts and a real “Team Relationship” with the hospitals management, the facility secured state Department of Health Licensure ten days from the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy…an extraordinarily short time frame.
Mt. Holly Surgery/Critical Care Unit Expansion
In its 12th project for Virtua Health System, Hessert served as the General Contractor on this 77,089 SF expansion of the group’s Mount Holly Facility. The expansion and renovation of virtually all-adjacent areas within the existing hospital required utilization of ICRA barriers and structural underpinning to enable construction while in operation. The project consists of 7 new operating suites, 24 new ICU/CCU rooms, with major ancillary space renovations. In addition a new primary electric service, new emergency generators, significant additions to water and boiler capacity, as well as major revisions to all medical gases, fire alarm and temperature control were incorporated into this project. During construction, the owner authorized major changes to the functional use of the facility. These changes were incorporated while still maintaining the original 24-month construction schedule duration.
